Increment of Transport fare.

 


Here is a detailed explanation of the recent transport fare increments in Ghana ¹ ² ³ ⁴ ⁵:

- The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) called for a 30 percent increase in transport fares to address the escalating operational costs faced by its members due to hikes in fuel prices.

- The Transport Operators Union and the Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana declared a 30 percent increase in transport fares effective April 13, 2024.

- The Concerned Drivers Association of Ghana and the Transport Operators of Ghana announced a 20 percent increase for intercity or long-journey transport, 15 percent for short-distance or intracity transport, a 15 percent hike for taxi services, and an increment from GHC 10.00 to GHC 15.00 for short-distance taxi services.

- The Ministry of Transport, in a directive issued on Sunday, April 14, 2024, called on the Ghana Police Service and other security agencies to apprehend any driver found contravening the existing fare regulations.

- The Ghana Private Roads and Transport Union (GPRTU) and the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC) have urged commuters not to adhere to any proposed new transport fares that have yet to receive official approval.

- Public transport users from the Kaneshie ‘trotro’ station going towards the 37 Military Hospital, Madina, Adenta, who used to pay GH¢7, GH¢8 and GH¢9, respectively, are now paying GH¢8.50, GH¢9.60 and GH¢11.60.

- For travelers from the Circle ‘trotro’ station, the fares for Odorkor, Dzorwulu and Kasoa have increased from GH¢4.50, GH¢5.50 and GH¢9 to GH¢5.40, GH¢6.60 and GH¢11, respectively.
